I started making art consistently in 2017. I’m mostly self-taught, but have taken several children’s’ book illustration courses at School of Visual Art. Click here for my Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators’ profile.

I use alcohol and water markers on a variety of paper (brisol, yupo and arches) to create different textures and effects. I scissor cut many of my images to create larger stacked paper collages. I also enjoy storytelling through cut paper figures that I pose and photograph in staged outdoor scenes. I decorate these sets with furniture and fixtures that I build out of natural materials, as well as vintage dollhouse accessories. I share drawings and progress videos at my instagram account, @monicamcfawn.
